Parents in Rwanda are often faced with making difficult decisions for their children—decisions that a parent should never have to make—such as feeding your child or paying for her education.
Those were the choices facing Deogratias and his wife, Florence, concerning their only daughter, Milka.
Deogratias is a refugee from Burundi and Florence is a Rwandan genocide survivor—she was a baby when the genocide broke out in 1994. They both know how difficult life can be and dream of providing a better future for Milka through education.
Last year, the couple worked multiple jobs to afford enrolling Milka at Hope for Children International School. Milka and her family live in the village, but she was not yet a sponsored child with Hope for Children Ministries.
It was tough going for the family, but the reward was seeing Milka flourish in her studies at her new school.
But Deogratias and Florence began to lose ground with their financial struggle to keep Milka in school. They were forced to make the difficult decision to pull her from Hope for Children International School.
Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there. I recently had the privilege to deliver the good news that Milka had become a sponsored child with Hope for Children Ministries—she could stay in school because her school fees would be covered by her sponsor.
I watched Deogratias as relief washed over his face and tears flooded his eyes. Then he burst out in praise to God for providing for his precious daughter.
My words always seem inadequate in describing how powerful these moments are—and how they strengthen my resolve to do the work God has prepared for me in Rwanda. But none of this would even be possible without the help from people like you, who support the ministry and the children with your prayers and donations.
The needs are many, but our God is mighty. Please consider a generous gift to help more children like Milka have access to Hope for Children International School.
Thank you for letting God work through you to give of your finances and be the hands and feet of Jesus to the least of the children in Rwanda.
